The video consists of three sections. Each part outlines a theory, proposed by scientists at the time, of how and why the fish died. The telling of each theory is divided between a voiceover, a reconstruction of events – where the camera plays the roles of perpetrator or investigator – and a diagram. The video is structured around stasis and rapid movement. ‘Objective' establishing shots of locations implicated in the narrative – a breeding pond, shed and night time shoreline – are interrupted by violently subjective footage as the camera speeds along the surface of the reservoir and disappears underground.
