The Negative is proud to present Being Outside, a new two-part poster work by Mark Hutchinson.

...any particular piece of 'the outside,' in which it happens to find itself, will always already be a place in which many things have happened and continue to happen. Not only is every place a place of multiple interests and uses; every place is a place of conflict. And everywhere things are unfolding that have no care for art...

...it could be a distinct species; a sub-species of another Hawaiian Honeycreeper species; a Hybrid of two other Heneycreeper species; or simply a single mutant or freak. If it was a distinct species or sub-species, it is now, undoubtedly, extinct...

...the red-bordered poster is going to be photographed outside, in the vicinity of the model of the Lanai Hookbill. The green-bordered poster will go up in the gallery along with the photograph, which itself will be incorporated into a likewise green-bordered poster. I will take the photograph as soon as I have the conjunction of a spare half-hour and some good weather - I have decided that it does not need to be taken immediately outside your house...

Being Outside is accompanied by Hides, three specially commissioned sets of drawings by Dylan Shipton made in response to the work.

Opening

Sunday 20th May, 2007 2-4pm

Being Outside continues until 12th July. Viewing by appointment only.
